PUMA Radio Program On KPFT Goes Awry

KPFT in Houston recently broadcast a one hour radio program hosted by “Jennifer”, a self proclaimed PUMA.  “Jennifer’s” special guest was none other then PUMA founder Darragh Murphy.  Ironically, the bulk of the show’s callers where not PUMA supporters, but rather callers who disagreed with “Jennifer” and Murphy.  And time after time, every caller who aired any disagreement were summarily dismissed or, worse, quickly interrupted.

It wasn’t a radio program in any respect.  Rather, it was a propoganda exercise on the part of PUMA and a poorly handled one.  “Jennifer” conducted a yelling match that just happened to be recorded.  PUMA’s and their ilk are quite adept at controlling one-sided “us-them” screaming matches.  Their only mistake was that, on this occassion, they choose to stage one in a radio studio.  Big mistake.

The KPFT management received a flood of complaints over the program, and had to go so far as to publicly admonish and apologize for “Jennifer” and Murphy.  Ironically, KPFT received a common question in response to the show:

The second most popular question I have received was: are these people serious?

That’s the only conclusion rational, sane person’s come to after evaluating the PUMA platform and dissecting the PUMA body of evidence revealing it as rumor mongering.  Typical of most PUMA’s and starkly highlighted in this radio program, an over reliance on innuendo and anecdotes forms the bulk of their rationale(if you could call it that).

I won’t detail every single inconsistency throughout the program.  Listen to it yourself, but two of my favorites were:

• Darragh Murphy urging voter to “be skeptical” in respect to holding Obama “to the fire” for the economy.  Murphy apparently isn’t familiar with the tenants of skepticism.  The most critical tool for a skeptic is to gather evidence from both sides of an argument and then apply a level of critical thinking to reach a conclusion.  Murphy, “Jennifer”, and most other PUMAs must have forgotten this step in the process somewhere along the line.  It doesn’t take a skeptic to apply common sense in understanding that not one single individual holds blame
• “Jennifer” tells Murphy she “saved” her.  Not unlike the PUMA mantra of “the Messiah” or “The One” to describe Obama?  PUMAs sure enjoy religious connotations to both compliment and defame.  What a versatile weapon.
